What's happening now?
We’re developing a 25-year plan to guide how Burnaby delivers parks, recreation and cultural services. The plan will be shaped by input from Council, residents, community groups and other interested parties.
There will be two rounds of public engagement to help ensure the plan reflects community needs and Council priorities. The first round of public engagement has now closed and a What We Heard report summarizing the results will be available later this fall.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the first round of engagement and congratulations to the prize winners. Your feedback is helping shape the future of Burnaby’s parks, recreation and cultural services. The second round of engagement is planned for early 2026. Please check back on this page for project updates.

About this project
Burnaby is a diverse and fast-growing city. The last long-range plan for parks, recreation and culture was created in 1984. With a changing population and evolving community needs, it’s time to create a new framework that reflects today’s realities and tomorrow’s opportunities.
This long-range plan will help the City deliver services that keep pace with change, work more effectively, and track progress toward long-term community goals. It will also guide how we create and maintain indoor and outdoor spaces, programs and experiences that enrich daily life and foster a strong, connected community.
The long-range plan will help us:
- build and improve facilities and programs
- ensure services are inclusive, accessible and sustainable
- support the health and well-being of all Burnaby residents
